You must do what’s best for the charity and those it supports – not what’s best for you, your friends or family, or any organisation that appoints you.  What matters is how you handle any conflict of interest where it arises. 

You should have an agreed conflict of interest policy that sets out what to do, and what happens if a charity trustee does something wrong.
